Text Box: Looking to Heaven in 2007!

Text Box: Pastor Walter Huyck - Shares Testimony of Wordless Book

Text Box: The following is taken from a January 2006 issue of The Gideon.  (This was shared with us by Doug Denbow, a local Gideon volunteer and CEF volunteer as well.)
Fatherless:     I was raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in a poor neighborhood, and my father stepped out of my life completely when I was about four years old. I had a couple of stepfathers as I grew up, and they were good me, but they were only around for a short time and then each of them stepped back out of my life. My grandfather was the closest thing I had to a father, but he died of lung cancer when I was fourteen years old, and that devastated me. Through a series of events following that loss, I really lost my way through my teenage years. When the principal of my high school told me and my mother that there was no way I would graduate, I decided to get a special waiver to join the military at 17.
Unsaved:     I joined the Marine corps, and they taught me

Text Box: what it was to become a man. I loved the Marine Corps, and I excelled, so it became my life. But it was the life of an unsaved man.
The Wordless Book:           . . . As I looked into the small communications hutch, I saw a young man scrunched in there with all of our radio equipment, playing a guitar. Drawn in by curiosity, I said, “Lance Corporal Nash, play me a song!” and he said, “Sergeant Huyck, I will play you a song I used to sing in youth camp some years ago.” He started playing and all I remember about that song is the name of Jesus. When I heard that, it was like a flashback. I remembered sitting in a backyard just down the street from my house, enjoying a Backyard Bible Study. In my mind’s eye, I saw a woman come out of the house and sit on the back porch steps and she shared with us something called the Wordless Book. The Wordless Book is a small book with a black page for sin, a red page for the blood, a white page for being washed  white as snow, a gold page for heaven and a green page for spiritual growth. There

Text Box: was a song that went along with it, and that was the song Lance Corporal Nash was singing. I was standing there, listening to him, but in my mind I was sitting in that backyard Bible Study, hearing the woman talk about Jesus.
A New Life:     After I left the communications hutch, I went directly to the Chaplain’s office and said, “Do you have a Bible I could use?” He handed me a Gideon Bible, and I took it down to my quarters. The only verse I could remember was John 3:16, so I opened the Bible and read those words I had learned so long ago: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  I bowed my head and said, “God, I don’t even know if I’m doing this right. All I know is that I need You in my life.” At that very moment the Holy Spirit of God came into my heart, everything changed in my life. . . . .
How About You? Do you know how to share the Gospel with kids? If not, we can help you! See training opportunities below.
